To provide an overview of British art in the 20th century, from the origins of the Camden Town Group with Walter Richard Sickert’s return to London and the emergence of the Bloomsbury Group in the 1900s, through the developments leading to Post-Impressionism and the radical modernities of Vortcism to the development of new directions in modern art and architecture in Britain 1918-39 and to post-1945 art movements from the ‘geometry of fear’ to Pop and Op Art of the 1960s and the changing contexts of art at the end of the 20th century which set the patterns for Post-Modern dissolutions and experiments.
