The module aims to give students a clear general understanding of the major ethical, legal and cultural issues raised by the practice of journalism. Students should gain insight into how these issues apply to U.K. society and develop the ability to think and write critically about them. The module further aims to develop students’ understanding of the increasing global component in media writing and the changing priorities of editors and media owners in response to the very real threats posed by declining revenues, increased commercial pressures, regulation and challenges of social sites and changing media consumption. Students will be aware of the fast pace of change brought about by the digital age.
