This module examines the role of the mass media and other forms of mediated communication in democratic politics.
There will be a particular focus on: (a) the dynamics of political communication (how a minority position becomes a majority one, and in reverse how a once-majority position can become a minority one); (b) new and emerging forms of political communication; (c) the role of the media in international relations (‘soft power’). The module draws on material from political science, social psychology and communications studies.
