This module examines the role of communication in politics and the changes that have recently brought a sense of crisis to our democracies. It asks why established parties are changing or losing favour with electorates. Why are large parts of the established media either dying or being dismissed as 'fake news'? How is social media rapidly changing all the rules? What drove the votes for Brexit and Trump? This module introduces the basic concepts of the discipline of Political Communication, explores the relationship between the media and democracy and analyses the precarious state of the media and political landscape today.
